Meet Shaun, Founder & Principal Consultant

Safety runs in Shaun's blood. His grandfather, Bob Lee, founded and ran On-Site Safety, and Shaun grew up watching him work, learning early what safety looks like when it's done right and the value it delivers when it's more than a checkbox. That grounding carried him into oilfield safety operations, where compliance was never paperwork. It was the difference between workers going home and workers getting hurt. From there he built and ran a series of ventures across safety and compliance, and it was while working closely with industrial rail siding startups that he found the gap: operators were being handed recycled training and thin audits in an industry with zero margin for error.

So he built the fix from the ground up. Every CRSC training program is developed in-house and paired with a student handout playbook that takes real time and energy to produce, and it shows. Accurate to the program, user friendly, and referenceable long after the course ends, it turns training from a pile of information into a working sequence your people can actually run. Clients call it their rail bible.

The same standard applies to program development. Whether CRSC is building your safety management system, General Operating Instructions or full rail safety management system from the ground up, or revising what you already have, every program ships with a usable implementation document and the support to put it into practice. Nothing gets handed over that your team can't operate.

Shaun also sees where the industry is heading. Rail is shifting, technologically and otherwise, and rather than letting operators get overwhelmed by it, CRSC integrates new technologies specifically for each organization it works with, not as a one-size-fits-all alternative. He leads every engagement personally, supported by a core team that is always ready and committed to the client, with best-in-class subcontractors brought in where specialized depth is needed. The goal never changes: safety, defensible data and real results. Make the rail side of your operation safe and simple, back every decision with data that stands up to regulators, insurers and boards, and send every worker home at the end of every shift.

What railway safety training does Canadian Railway Solutions offer?

Canadian Railway Solutions Corp. delivers railway safety training built entirely in-house, including CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules) and IROR training, rail car movement and switching safety, and full train-the-trainer programs so companies can build internal training capacity. Every course includes a detailed student handout playbook that remains a practical field reference long after the classroom, not just a copy of the slides.

What is CROR training and who needs it?

The Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) govern safe train and equipment movement on Canadian railways. Anyone operating, switching or supervising rail movements at an industrial site, plant siding or shortline needs rules training appropriate to their role. CRSC delivers CROR and IROR training tailored to your specific operation, with student playbooks your crews can reference every day on the job.

Does CRSC perform industrial rail audits and track inspections?

Yes. CRSC conducts independent industrial railway audits, certified track inspections, and rail safety assessments at facilities across Canada. All findings are documented to a standard that is defensible in front of regulators, insurers and boards, giving operators an unbiased, evidence-based picture of their rail operation.

Can CRSC build or revise our safety management system?

CRSC develops and revises safety management systems (SMS), Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS), General Operating Instructions (GOI) and complete rail safety management programs, and supports COR and SECOR certification. Every program is delivered with a usable implementation document and hands-on support, so your team can actually operate the system, not just file it.

Does Canadian Railway Solutions investigate derailments and rail incidents?

Yes. CRSC provides independent derailment and incident investigation for industrial rail operators, identifying root causes and delivering documented, defensible findings with practical corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Who leads Canadian Railway Solutions Corp.?

CRSC was founded by Shaun, whose background spans oilfield safety operations, entrepreneurship across safety and compliance, and hands-on work with industrial rail siding operators. He is a Certified Industrial Railway Track Inspector and Certified Train the Trainer, holds an NCSO designation, and is a recognized subject matter expert whose expertise is built on years in the field and the proprietary training programs and compliance systems he has developed. He personally leads every engagement from CRSC's base in Calmar, Alberta, supported by a committed core team and best-in-class subcontractors where specialized expertise is needed.

How does CRSC help rail operators adopt new technology?

The rail industry is changing quickly, from digital documentation to AI-assisted workflows. Rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all product, CRSC integrates modern tools specifically for each organization it works with, so operators gain the benefits of new technology without being overwhelmed by it, along with the defensible data and measurable results that come with doing it right.

How much does railway safety training or an industrial rail audit cost?

Every operation is different, so CRSC scopes each engagement to your site, headcount and regulatory requirements rather than quoting flat packages. Contact us with a description of your operation and we will provide a clear, itemized quote with no surprises. Training, audits, inspections and program development are each priced to the actual work involved.
